One World Builders (OWB) completed a refurbishment and fit-out of one of Darwin’s most popular bar/restaurants—The Cav Hotel established in approximately 1932 is a home away from home for many Darwinians. It is a multiple-award winning eatery and drinking venue. It was not just a bar refurbishment but a massive responsibility to get it right for the community. The Cav Hotel client representative was the manager with a clear vision of how his pub should look.
The Cav Hotel needed the works completed in 16 days!
Strip-out and rebuild of the bar, restaurant, kitchen and four bathrooms
Increase the size of the gaming room and the outside bar
Custom made acoustic ceiling panels
Kitchen widened with increased ceiling height with custom exhaust canopy.
Bathrooms upgraded—new toilet suites, replacing stone tops on the vanities
Gaming room revamped—increased size for ten additional poker machines
Main room functionality—new table layout including built-in seating area
Outside bar to be transformed into an active service area
OWB worked 24/7 with an average of 50 men per day and night working on top of and around each other to get the job completed on time.
Morale was high and there was an electric energy on site.
The hand-picked quality trades and materials (excepting the acoustic panels) were sourced locally.
OWB proposed changes to the wall tiling to full height and raising the bulkhead in the main bar to create a sense of space.
OWB developed and maintained high morale with the subcontractor team even under the stress of the short timeline.
The strong relationships helped to get the project delivered on time and to a high standard of workmanship.
We exceeded the client’s expectations in all respects of the job—the owners, Mick Burns and Brook David, and publican, Dave Cannon, were extremely happy with the finished product and stated that with their years of experience in the hotel industry the Cav refurbishment was the first to come in on time and on budget.
This will always be a memorable job for OWB. We are proud of the quality of workmanship produced in the contracted time frame.
